An Overview of Special Educational Needs and Disability

What Does it Mean?<\/p>

Children and young people with learning difficulties will learn at a slower pace than other children and may have greater difficulty than their peers in acquiring basic literacy or numeracy skills or in understanding concepts, even with appropriate differentiation.<\/p>

Types of Provision at Iqra Academy<\/p>

All learners at Iqra Academy receive Quality First teaching and learning.<\/p>

Classroom environments are inclusive and learning tasks are differentiated, imaginative and purposeful.<\/p>

Where learners continue to struggle with reading, writing or numeracy, they may be identified for intervention groups, either within the SEND department, as part of the Support Curriculum or within the English and Maths Departments.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

What Does it Mean?<\/p>

This is a term used to describe a young person\u2019s ability to interact and communicate with their peers and other people.<\/p>

Young people with difficulties in this area may also find the following a challenge:<\/p>

  • Forming sounds, words and sentences<\/li>
  • Initiating and maintaining conversation<\/li>
  • Processing and following verbal instructions<\/li>
  • Expressing ideas, opinions and communicating wishes<\/li>
  • Using the appropriate words and vocabulary<\/li><\/ul>

    At Iqra Academy, lessons will be delivered through a range of teaching and learning strategies and a multi-sensory approach therefore ensuring that all learners have an opportunity to be successful and achieve their potential.<\/p>

    There is a wide range of sensory and physical difficulties that affect children and young people such as Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment or Physical Disabilities.<\/p>

    We have accessible learning environment for all pupils.<\/p>

    Classrooms are well resourced with a variety of equipment allowing teachers to plan a multi-sensory lesson catering for the needs of all students.<\/p>
